SciFest Dubai is the first science festival of its kind in the city of Dubai. The aim is to celebrate science through the arts – through drama, poetry, music, fashion, literature, and also through workshops stage shows, debates, panel discussions, quizzes, story-telling and much more. The inaugural event took place in February 2014. Over 13,000 people attended the four-day festival that was covered by BBC World in addition to local press, radio, and television. The aim of SciFest is to promote STEAM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). We believe science and the scientific method are paramount for the success of our species. Which is why we aim to educate everyone about science: you don’t have to be a scientist to love science.

The Evolve Move Play method is for those who want to feel more free and connected to their movement practice. Who do not see themselves separate from nature but as a part of a whole. For whoever wishes to rekindle their child like alertness for opportunity and fun in their every day life.
In Rafe’s words:
Reclaim your capacity to move with flow over grass, rocks, and trees, play with sticks and stones, and learn to develop yourself through contact, roughhousing, dance, and combatives. Reconnect with nature and develop your aliveness in movement to become a more resilient, embodied human.

The Cognitive Rampage Podcast #156: Dr. Mark Sircus

Dr. Mark Sircus, Ac., OMD, DM (P) (acupuncturist, doctor of oriental and pastoral medicine) is a prolific writer and author of some astounding medical and health-related books. Dr. Sircus’s methods are based on medical science and long years of clinical experience, not only his own but experiences of doctors from around the world who have been practicing brilliant medicine.

His books are heavily referenced, but the layperson finds little difficulty in understanding his presentation of medical topics. For many years Dr. Sircus has been researching into the human condition and into the causes of disease; he has distilled many of the divergent medical systems into a new form of medicine that he has coined Natural Allopathic Medicine.

The Cognitive Rampage Podcast #155: Author Johnjoe McFadden

Author of “Life On The Edge” johnjoemcfadden.com
Life is the most extraordinary phenomenon in the known universe; but how does it work? Even in this age of cloning and synthetic biology, the remarkable truth remains: nobody has ever made anything living entirely out of dead material. Life remains the only way to make life. Are we missing a vital ingredient in its creation?

Like Richard Dawkins’ The Selfish Gene, which provided a new perspective on evolution, Life on the Edge alters our understanding of life’s dynamics as Jim Al-Khalili and Johnjoe Macfadden reveal the hitherto missing ingredient to be quantum mechanics. Drawing on recent ground-breaking experiments around the world, they show how photosynthesis relies on subatomic particles existing in many places at once, while inside enzymes, those workhorses of life that make every molecule within our cells, particles vanish from one point in space and instantly materialize in another.

Each chapter in Life on the Edge opens with an engaging example that illustrates one of life’s puzzles – How do migrating birds know where to go? How do we really smell the scent of a rose? How do our genes manage to copy themselves with such precision? – and then reveals how quantum mechanics delivers its answer. Guiding the reader through the maze of rapidly unfolding discovery, Al-Khalili and McFadden communicate vividly the excitement of this explosive new field of quantum biology, with its potentially revolutionary applications, and also offer insights into the biggest puzzle of all: what is life?
